Course Aim:

The Level 4 Business Administration Higher Apprenticeship has been developed to support those already employed in a business environment role at a higher level such as senior administrators, team leaders or managers. This apprenticeships provides nationally recognised qualifications at level 4.


Student Pre-Requisites:

The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but will typically be five GCSEs including English and maths at Grade C or higher (4 to 9 new grading system). All applicants will be aptitude tested for English and maths and must be able to demonstrate ability equivalent to Level 2.

It is typical that higher apprentices will have some prior experience in a business or administration role to allow them to complete the higher apprenticeship, although this is not a formal requirement.

 

Course Duration:

Typically this apprenticeship will take 24 months.

 

Location:

Students are with their employer from day one and will study their taught components at an agreed Gen2 centre 2 days per month. This training will take place at a Gen2 centre based in West Cumbria, Carlisle or Furness.  The students are visited by a Gen2 assessor in the workplace approximately every four to six weeks to assess their competence and monitor progress.

 Programme Components:

The programme delivered through Gen2 will consist of:

  • Completion and achievement of a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Business & Professional Administration
  • Regular performance reviews undertaken by the employer and Gen2 assessor
  • Development of a portfolio of evidence including reports, assignments, and evidence of tasks undertaken.
  • Observations by the Gen2 assessor
  • Ongoing professional discussions between the apprentice and assessor relating to workplace competence and knowledge. 
  • Feedback from line manager, direct reports and peers including 180/360 degree feedback approaches.

Apprentices will be required to have or achieve level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their apprenticeship.


This qualification is made up of:

  • Level 4 Diploma in Business & Professional Administration (knowledge component)
  • Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Business Administration (competence component)

Mandatory Units of the Level 4 Diploma (knowledge):

  • Understanding organisations
  • Effective communication in business
  • Business ethics
  • Personal and professional development
  • Resource management

Mandatory Units of the Level 4 NVQ (competence):

  • Communicate in a business environment
  • Manage personal and professional development 
  • Manage the work of an administrative function 
  • Resolve administrative problems

In addition to the mandatory units students will be required to undertake a number of optional units which will be discussed and agreed with the employer.

 

Delivery Plan and Commitment:

The qualification requires 20% of time from the student’s normal working week to be committed to the qualification for the duration of the programme. This time must be away from normal work duties and will be achieved as follows:

  • Typically 2 days per month are taught in a Gen2 centre.  In addition students are given an assignment to be completed off the job within the workplace.
  • 4-6 weekly assessment sessions (half day each) throughout the programme to consolidate training and support portfolio development.  These sessions are pre-arranged at mutual convenience with the assessor, employer and student at the employers premises.
  • Ongoing work towards achieving the required standards of this apprenticeship including mentoring sessions, professional discussions, study time, employer organised training, site visits and maintaining a CPD log. 

The student will be required to demonstrate and evidence this ongoing commitment through the maintenance of a portfolio (electronic system provided by Gen2).

On completion of the Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Business & Professional Administration you will gain the following qualifications:

  • Level 4 Diploma in Business & Professional Administration
  • Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Business Administration
